	Generating the New
University of Tromsø was established in 1972, and in 1996 the Norwegian Polar Institute was moved to Tromsø from Oslo. Between 1971 and 2006 the population of Tromsø has increased from 39 960 to 63 596. Through a veritable carpet of new projects the growth rate posits a challenge to all the landscapes of Tromsø Island.
