OPEN ROUND - NEW METHODS ARE INVENTED
Architects, the youth milieus and various new voices in the cityscape are now defying the proposed concept of a massive development of apartments on the site of the old shipyard. This opposition was made possible through the Tromsø X –Files exhibition. In chronicles, newspaper feature articles and at open meetings questions were raised where the ideas of such a development originated. In the process the developer is moved from a position of resistance to the critical questions towards launching a new and Open Round – a restatement of the entire project. The Institute of Planning in the University now becomes the manager of the completely new dialogue concerning the role of the site in the future town.  The existing seascape is opened up to mental and physical occupation to be appropriated by the city as its own place.
